Ottawa Needed a Third-Period Tiebreaker, and Cousins Supplied It

The Senators and Mammoth traded goals for two periods and most of a third before Ottawa finally blinked last — in the right direction. With the game tied and time running out, Nick Cousins delivered the difference.

Cousins redirected a Thomas Chabot feed at the top of the crease late in the third period, and the Senators beat the Utah Mammoth 4–2 on Saturday.

Fabian Zetterlund opened the scoring on the power play, burying a wrist shot with one second left in the advantage. Clayton Keller answered by knocking in his own rebound.

The third period brought three more goals before the final buzzer. Michael Amadio finished a 3-on-1 pass from Claude Giroux to put Ottawa ahead. Barrett Hayton tipped a Keller shot to tie it again. Then Cousins struck.

Shane Pinto — playing his 300th NHL game — added an empty-net goal with 16 seconds left and also picked up an assist.

Samuel Ersson made 30 saves for Ottawa; Karel Vejmelka stopped 17 for Utah. Keller's two points extended his streak to points in all five games of Utah's road trip.

Ottawa is 11-6-1, winners of two straight and three of four. Utah drops to 10-7-1 and has lost two in a row on its road trip.

The Twikup Take

Utah kept answering; Ottawa kept finding another way forward. The winner came from a depth forward, while the clincher came from a milestone man playing his 300th NHL game.
