A First NHL Goal Decides It in San Jose

The Calgary Flames opened November with a 2-1 win over the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center on Monday night — and the deciding goal was one William Stromgren will never forget.

Adam Klapka opened the scoring at 14:36 of the first period, picking off a pass at the blue line and beating Yaroslav Askarov with a wrist shot from the slot.

The Flames carried that 1-0 lead into the third period, where Stromgren doubled it at 9:14. Klapka slid the puck from the right corner to Stromgren in front of the net; his first shot was stopped, but he put the rebound in over Askarov's blocker for his first NHL goal. It came in just his fourth career game — and his first appearance of the 2026-27 season.

San Jose pushed back quickly. Sam Dickinson found a loose puck in a scramble around the top of the crease and fired it over Dustin Wolf's blocker at 11:57 to make it 2-1. It was the second goal of Dickinson's career.

The Sharks could not find the equalizer after that. Wolf finished with 26 saves for Calgary, while Askarov made 20 saves for San Jose. Klapka's goal and assist gave him two points on the night.

The Flames (7-8-0) have now won two of their past three games. The Sharks (7-8-1) have lost four of their past five.

The Twikup Take

A season debut, a first NHL goal, and it stands up as the game-winner on the road — Stromgren picked quite a night to announce himself. With Wolf now 11-2-0 in his career against San Jose, the Sharks must be tired of seeing him.
