Canada Marks the 14th Francophone Immigration Week
Canada is marking the 14th National Francophone Immigration Week from November 1 to 7, 2026. In a statement issued November 2, Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab highlighted the essential contribution of French-speaking immigrants to the vitality of Francophone and Acadian minority communities outside Quebec.
This year's theme is "Finding your place within the Francophonie community." The week is coordinated nationally by the Fédération des communautés francophones et acadienne du Canada (FCFA) and at the provincial and territorial level by the Réseaux en immigration francophone, with financial support from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. For the FCFA, finding your place means more than settling in: it means building connections, contributing and feeling at home.
Ottawa Points to Its 9% Target for 2026
Diab said Canada is making progress toward its 2026 target of welcoming 9% of French-speaking permanent residents outside Quebec. She pointed to the Welcoming Francophone Communities Initiative, the Francophone Immigration Support Program and the Express Entry system, which selects qualified French-speaking candidates to help meet labour market needs. Ottawa says it is also working with provinces, territories and community organizations to improve settlement and integration supports for newcomers.
More Than 200 Activities Across the Country
The week's official program features more than 200 activities from coast to coast, including cultural evenings, café debates, cooking workshops, job-market training, testimonial circles and school celebrations — all aimed at bringing Francophones of every origin together and promoting living together, diversity and inclusion.
The Twikup Take
Francophone immigration is one of the few files where Ottawa has set a clear, public number — 9% of permanent residents outside Quebec — and a week like this one is how communities turn that target into actual neighbours, employees and classmates.
