Two Teams, Two Opposite Stories, One Electric Night in Montreal

The Winnipeg Jets visit the Montreal Canadiens tonight at the Centre Bell, with puck drop at 7:00 p.m. ET on TSN2, TSN3 and RDS. It is a meeting of two teams heading in opposite directions: Montreal has won five straight, and Winnipeg has lost five straight.

Montreal's Surge

The Canadiens (9-3-2) sit second in the Atlantic with 20 points, 8-1-1 in their last 10. Rookie goaltender Jacob Fowler has been the story: 7-1-0 with a 1.84 goals-against average, a .932 save percentage and two shutouts. Defenceman Lane Hutson leads the team with 13 points, while Cole Caufield has a team-high 8 goals and 12 points, and captain Nick Suzuki has 12 points in just nine games.

Winnipeg's Slide

The Jets (4-8-3) have 11 points, are 1-7-2 in their last 10 and have been outscored 54-34 — a minus-20 goal differential. Mark Scheifele leads Winnipeg with 12 points, 10 of them assists, but the support has dried up around him. In net, the Jets' team save percentage is just .879 with no shutouts — Stuart Skinner is 3-4-3 (.887) and Nico Daws 2-3-0 (.886).

What Decides It

Montreal scores 3.43 goals per game; Winnipeg allows 3.6 per game. The Jets' clearest path is a tight, low-event game: slow the middle of the ice, lean on Scheifele's line, and hope their goaltending finally steals one.

The Twikup Take

One of these streaks ends tonight. Montreal is deeper, hotter and at home behind the league's hottest young goaltender; Winnipeg needs its best defensive game of the season just to keep this close. Expect the Bell Centre crowd to smell blood early.
