Key Takeaways
- Starting November 3, 2026, Express Entry profiles will be rescored under a new Labour Market Integration factor.
- Eligible high-wage Canadian work experience or qualifying job offers can add points, but candidates receive only the higher result.
- Qualifying job offers no longer need an LMIA for CRS points; candidates should add offer details before November 3.
Your Express Entry Score Could Change Without You Doing Anything
Imagine checking your Express Entry profile on November 3 and discovering that your CRS score has changed.
You haven't learned French. You haven't earned another degree. You haven't gained another year of work experience.
So what happened?
Canada changed the scoring rules.
Starting November 3, 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is introducing a new Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) factor that rewards Canadian work experience and qualifying high-wage job offers.
And everyone already in the Express Entry pool gets rescored.
The New Points Could Change Who Gets Ahead
The new Labour Market Integration factor offers two ways to score points. Candidates receive whichever produces the higher score — not both.
- Canadian work experience: Existing experience points, up to 80 without a spouse, plus 20, 40 or 70 bonus points for at least 12 months in an eligible high-wage occupation.
- Qualifying job offer: A job offer in an eligible high-wage occupation can earn 50, 70 or 100 points.
The factor's maximum is 150 points without a spouse or 140 with one.
But not every well-paying job qualifies. The occupation must appear on IRCC's eligible list, with a median wage at least 1.3 times the average median wage for Canada's overall workforce.
The LMIA Rule Is Changing Too
Here's another major shift.
From November 3, qualifying job offers no longer require a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) for CRS points or Federal Skilled Worker and Federal Skilled Trades eligibility.
An LMIA provides no extra points or priority.
But a job offer still needs to be genuine. An officer must be satisfied that it is genuine when assessing a permanent-residence application.
November 3 Is the Deadline You Shouldn't Ignore
IRCC says recalculating profiles could take up to two weeks. Express Entry invitation rounds will pause until the process is complete.
Canadian work experience points update automatically.
Candidates with job offers without an LMIA must follow IRCC's temporary instructions when updating their profiles. While the online form catches up, it will still require them to select that a positive LMIA was issued and enter specified placeholder information.
IRCC's changes page explains how to enter the information while the online form catches up.
The Twikup Take
Express Entry isn't just getting a new points formula. It's getting a new way to rank candidates.
Canadian experience in eligible high-wage occupations could become a bigger advantage, while qualifying job offers can once again influence CRS scores.
Your qualifications may be the same. Your place in the Express Entry pool may not be.
