A Strange Smell Stopped This Child From Opening the Box
A Barrie child's Halloween candy came with something no parent ever wants to find — and a strange smell may have been what kept it from being much worse.
The child had been trick-or-treating on Saturday, October 31, near Wessenger Park in southwest Barrie. In the days afterward, the child went to open a box of Smarties, noticed a smell of nail glue — and found a small razor blade inside the box.
The child was not injured.
The discovery was reported to Barrie Police on November 2, and the item has since been submitted for forensic analysis.
What Police Don't Know Yet
Investigators have not been able to determine which residence handed out the candy — the one question every parent in that neighbourhood will be asking.
So far, no other similar incidents have been reported.
Police are reminding parents and caregivers to check their children's Halloween candy carefully and to report anything suspicious or unusual. Here, a child noticing something off made all the difference.
The Barrie investigation is filed under occurrence #BA26069822.
The Twikup Take
A smell of nail glue, a box never fully opened, and a child who noticed something was wrong — that is the whole ballgame here.
Check the candy. Then check it again.
