Anaheim Turned the Game Around

Evan Bouchard opened Edmonton's scoring with a first-period power-play goal.

But Anaheim had an answer. Cutter Gauthier scored a goal and added an assist, while Pavel Mintyukov turned the game in the Ducks' favour.

Mintyukov (two goals, one assist) tied the game 2–2 at 3:37 before putting Anaheim ahead 3–2 at 6:15 of the second period.

Beckett Sennecke (two goals, one assist) then extended the advantage, scoring the power-play goal that made it 5–2 at 1:42 of the third period.

Gauthier has now scored nine goals in his last four games, with seven coming on the power play.

McDavid Made History. Edmonton Still Fell Short.

McDavid wasn't finished.

He scored shorthanded at 2:34 of the second period and finished with one goal and three assists, extending his season-opening point streak to 17 games.

Edmonton's late push made things interesting.

Kasperi Kapanen scored a power-play goal with 3:36 remaining. Leon Draisaitl followed with another goal 45 seconds from the end, assisted by McDavid.

But the tying goal never came.

Draisaitl and Bouchard each also recorded an assist, while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins finished with two assists.

Two More Records From the Night

The game also delivered some remarkable milestones.

  • McDavid and Draisaitl have now combined on a goal 561 times, passing Alex Delvecchio and Gordie Howe (560) for fourth all-time.
  • Bouchard reached 30 points in 17 games, tying Bobby Orr for the second-fastest start to 30 points by a defenceman.

Laurent Brossoit made 23 saves for Anaheim, while Matt Tomkins stopped 16 shots for Edmonton. Tristan Jarry was out ill, and emergency backup Brett Epp was activated.

Edmonton fell to 11-3-3, ending its five-game point streak (3-0-2).

Anaheim improved to 8-7-1 with its third consecutive victory. The Ducks also scored five or more goals in six straight games — a franchise first.

The Twikup Take

Four McDavid points. Two historic milestones. One painful loss. Anaheim scored five, built a three-goal cushion and survived everything Edmonton threw back.
