Montreal Just Won the CFL's Two Biggest Individual Awards

One quarterback. One receiver. Two of the CFL's biggest trophies.

And both are heading to Montreal.

The Alouettes have another reason to celebrate before Saturday's East Final, with quarterback Davis Alexander named the league's Most Outstanding Player and his favourite target, Tyson Philpot, crowned Most Outstanding Canadian.

But here's what makes the timing interesting: their next opponent, Winnipeg, has two award winners of its own.

Alexander's Numbers Made a Powerful Case

Davis Alexander didn't just win the George Reed Most Outstanding Player award.

He collected 236 points and 40 of 52 first-place votes when the honour was announced November 5.

His season numbers tell the story.

5,257 passing yards.

35 touchdowns.

Just 4 interceptions.

That's the production that put the Montreal quarterback at the top of the CFL's individual honours.

Philpot Made Canadian Football History

Alexander wasn't the only Alouettes star celebrating.

Receiver Tyson Philpot was named Most Outstanding Canadian with 245 points after a record-setting season.

His numbers were remarkable: 124 receptions and 1,809 receiving yards.

Both are Canadian records.

Montreal now has the league's Most Outstanding Player throwing passes to its Most Outstanding Canadian.

And both have another game to win.

Four More Players Took Home Major Honours

The CFL rolled out its 2026 award winners over the past week, with four other names completing the major individual honours.

  • Most Outstanding Defensive Player: Darnell Sankey, BC Lions. The linebacker led the league with 114 defensive tackles. His award was announced November 3.
  • Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman: Jarell Broxton, Winnipeg Blue Bombers. His award was announced November 4.
  • Most Outstanding Special Teams Player: Trey Vaval, Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The returner became the award's first-ever back-to-back winner, announced October 29.
  • Most Outstanding Rookie: Tyler Kahmann, Toronto Argonauts. The receiver finished with 77 catches for 1,092 yards and 8 touchdowns. His award was announced October 30.

Now Montreal and Winnipeg Meet With Everything at Stake

Here's the twist that makes awards week more than a trophy ceremony.

Montreal's Alexander and Philpot will be on one sideline Saturday.

Winnipeg's Broxton and Vaval will be on the other.

The Alouettes host the Blue Bombers in the East Final, with a trip to the Grey Cup in Calgary on the line.

Individual awards have already been decided.

The championship race hasn't.

The Twikup Take

Montreal won the biggest individual honours. Winnipeg collected two major awards of its own.

Now those winners have to settle something no trophy ceremony can decide.

The awards belong to the players. Saturday belongs to whoever wins.
