Tesla Strikes Two Police Officers in Oshawa — 23-Year-Old Ajax Man Wanted
An early-morning police investigation in Oshawa took another turn when a Tesla SUV allegedly struck two officers and fled the scene.
Durham Regional Police said the incident happened on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, after officers on proactive patrol spotted an Acura sedan travelling at high speed on Simcoe Street North without its lights on at approximately 1:05 a.m.
Police attempted a traffic stop, but the Acura allegedly fled. Officers later found the vehicle parked unoccupied in a residential driveway and located its driver hiding in a nearby backyard.
Police said a search of the Acura turned up drugs and a replica firearm.
But the incident wasn't over.
While officers continued their investigation during the September 22 incident, police allege a Tesla SUV entered the area at high speed.
Officers attempted to speak with the driver after the Tesla stopped. Police allege the vehicle then reversed, striking two officers before fleeing the area.
One officer was taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the second officer attended hospital with minor injuries.
Police have identified the alleged Tesla driver as Yaseen Waggan, 23, of Ajax and say investigators are seeking information about his whereabouts.
According to Durham Regional Police, Waggan is wanted on several charges, including flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a conveyance, assault causing bodily harm, failing to remain, failing to identify himself to an officer and failing to comply with release orders.
Police are asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact investigators.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
