A 46-year-old Toronto man has been charged with second-degree murder after a man in his 50s was fatally stabbed in north Toronto Saturday evening, according to Toronto Police.
The incident happened on September 26, 2026, at approximately 8:27 p.m. in the Steeles Avenue West and Hilda Avenue area, near the Toronto-Vaughan boundary.
Police responded to a call for a stabbing and say the victim and suspect had been involved in a physical altercation.
Investigators allege the suspect stabbed the victim during the confrontation.
Victim Pronounced Dead at the Scene
Emergency life-saving measures were performed on the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The victim has only been identified as a man in his 50s. Toronto Police said his name will be released after his next of kin have been notified.
Police have not provided further details about what allegedly led to the altercation or whether the two men knew each other.
Suspect Arrested at the Scene
According to police, the suspect was arrested at the scene.
Meir Cohen, 46, of Toronto, has been charged with second-degree murder.
Cohen was scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Sunday, September 27, at 10 a.m.
The charge is an allegation and has not been proven in court.
Toronto's 29th Homicide of 2026
Toronto Police have classified the death as the city's 29th homicide of 2026.
The investigation is being handled by the Toronto Police Service's Homicide and Missing Persons Unit.
Investigators are now asking anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. Police are also looking for people who may have captured video of the area around the time of the stabbing, including surveillance or other footage that could assist investigators.
