Coffee In. Canadian Tire Money Out.
Once the accounts are linked, members who scan for Tims Rewards can earn 2% in Canadian Tire Money on eligible pre-tax Tim Hortons purchases.
Meanwhile, they still collect their regular Tims Rewards points.
So that coffee, breakfast sandwich or road-trip Tims stop can now contribute rewards toward purchases at places such as Canadian Tire, SportChek and Mark's.
But there's an even bigger number being advertised.
Up to 5%.
Getting 5% Takes a Little More Work
Don't expect 5% Canadian Tire Money simply because you linked your accounts.
The basic offer is 2%.
Linked members can earn an additional 2% when they scan for Tims Rewards and then pay with a Triangle credit card.
Another 1% can be earned on eligible purchases when a Triangle credit card is used as the payment method for Scan & Pay in the Tims app.
That combination can bring the total to as much as 5% in Canadian Tire Money. Terms and eligibility rules apply.
Two Rewards, Not One Giant Program
There is one important distinction.
Tims Rewards points and Canadian Tire Money aren't becoming interchangeable.
Tims points stay Tims points.
Canadian Tire Money goes into Triangle Rewards and can be redeemed at participating Canadian Tire Corporation banners.
In other words, buying enough Double-Doubles won't directly get you a free barbecue.
But it might help you earn a little Canadian Tire Money toward one.
This Could Reach Millions of Canadians
The scale is what makes the partnership interesting.
Canadian Tire says Triangle Rewards has more than 12 million members, while Tims Rewards has almost 8 million.
And millions of people visit Tim Hortons every day.
Instead of asking Canadians to change their routine, the two companies are attaching another reward to something many people already do.
Grab coffee.
Scan your Tims Rewards.
Earn your points.
And now, potentially, earn Canadian Tire Money too.
That's about as Canadian as a loyalty partnership gets.
