Air Canada and United Add New Canada-US Routes for Summer 2027 Travel
Summer travel plans could soon come with more direct options between Canada and the United States. Air Canada and United Airlines have announced new routes and additional flights for 2027, aiming to connect more Canadian communities with American destinations and international travel hubs.
Three New Air Canada Routes
Air Canada will introduce service from Toronto to Louisville, Montréal to Indianapolis, and Edmonton to Newark. The Toronto-Louisville route is scheduled to begin on April 28, 2027, with service increasing to daily flights in May. Montréal-Indianapolis flights are planned daily from June 1 through September 30.
The Edmonton-Newark route is scheduled to operate four times weekly from June 1 to October 17, connecting Alberta travellers directly with the New York region. Air Canada also plans to increase capacity between Edmonton and San Francisco by using larger Airbus A220 aircraft.
United Adds More Canadian Connections
United Airlines will launch seasonal flights between Newark and St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. It will also introduce new services from Denver to Ottawa and Québec City.
The airline plans additional improvements elsewhere in its Canadian network, including more flights between Washington, D.C., and Québec City. Daily seats between Denver and Winnipeg are scheduled to increase by 65 per cent.
These additions could provide travellers with more choices for visiting family, planning holidays and arranging business trips. They may also make onward connections through major airline hubs more convenient.
Partnership Expansion Still Needs Approval
The announcement goes beyond individual flight schedules. Air Canada and United have agreed to renew and expand their Transborder Joint Business Agreement, which combines aspects of their Canada-US networks to offer coordinated connections and integrated itineraries.
The proposed agreement remains subject to regulatory approval. Air Canada says an application seeking approval of the amended agreement has been submitted to Transport Canada, so the expanded arrangement should not yet be treated as final.
TwikUp's Perspective
More routes can improve access to destinations that previously required a connection, particularly for travellers outside Canada’s largest hubs. However, the practical value will depend on fares, schedules, seasonal demand and how well flights connect with onward journeys.
Travellers should check airline booking pages before making plans, as published schedules can change. For now, the announcement offers an early look at a broader Canada-US network for summer 2027.
