The Edmonton Police Service’s Homicide Section has taken over the investigation into the death of a 16-year-old girl in northeast Edmonton. Police are treating the death as suspicious while investigators work to determine what happened.

Officers responded Sunday morning

Police were called at approximately 6:50 a.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2026, following reports of a shooting near 139 Avenue and 32 Street.

Responding officers found the girl seriously injured and began administering first aid. She was pronounced dead when emergency medical services arrived, according to police.

EPS described the initial call as a report of a shooting but did not specify the circumstances surrounding the girl’s injuries. The Homicide Section is continuing to investigate and said more information would be released as it becomes available.
