Police Found One Gun — Then Two More Turned Up Days Later
What began with a traffic stop in Brampton eventually led Peel Regional Police to three alleged illegal firearms — including a sawed-off rifle.
The investigation began on August 10, when officers investigated a vehicle near Cedarbrook Road and Edgewater Court in Brampton. Police said they seized a loaded illegal handgun and arrested three people on firearm-related charges.
But investigators weren't finished.
Just three days later, on August 13 at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers from Peel Police's 21 Division Criminal Investigations Bureau attended the residence of one of the people accused in the original case.
According to police, investigators found two more firearms:
- A 9 mm handgun
- A sawed-off rifle
Police said several rounds of ammunition were also located.
That brought the total number of firearms seized during the investigation to three.
Alberta Man Now Faces 14 Charges
Police identified Navjot Singh, 29, of Innisfail, Alberta, as one of the accused.
Following the additional seizure, police said Singh was hit with further firearm-related charges, including careless storage of a firearm, two counts of possession of a firearm knowing its possession was unauthorized, careless storage of ammunition, two counts of possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, and failure to comply with an undertaking.
Police say Singh now faces 14 charges in total connected to the investigation.
He was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
Three Firearms Seized as Investigation Continues
Deputy Chief Marc Andrews said the investigation resulted in illegal firearms and ammunition being removed from the community.
The case is particularly notable because police say the initial traffic-stop investigation produced one loaded handgun — before investigators allegedly uncovered two additional firearms only three days later.
